12. FAULT FINDING

PROBLEM
POSSIBLE CAUSES
ACTION
MOTOR WILL NOT START
1. Empty fuel tank
1. Open fuel tank carefully to release any pressure and fill tank.
2. Incorrect fuel/oil mix.
2. Drain tank and fill with correct mixture.
3. Control switch in stop position.
3. Set to 1.
4. Choke lever in Run position.
4. Set to Start position.
5. Oiled up spark plug.
5. Remove and clean or replace and check fuel/oil mixture.
6. Air filter choked.
6. Clean or replace.
7. Fuel filter choked.
7. Clean or replace.
8. Decompression Button not closing.
8. Remove and clean or replace.
PROBLEM
POSSIBLE CAUSES ACTION
MOTOR STOPS DURING USE
1. Empty fuel tank.
1. As above.
2. Idle speed too low.
2. Adjust idle speed screw.
3. Air filter choked.
3. As above.
4. Fuel filter choked.
4. As above.
5. Decompression Button activated.
5. Restart as normal.
PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSES ACTION
MOTOR SMOKES BADLY
1. Too much oil in fuel/oil mixture.
1. Drain fuel tank and refill with correct mix.
PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSES ACTION
UNABLE TO ENGAGE GEARS 1. Idle speed too high. 1. Adjust idle speed screw.
2. Damaged selector pin.
2. Remove gear selector and check pin.
3. Broken or damaged gears. 3. Empty gearbox oil and inspect gears.
PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSES ACTION
MOTOR OVERHEATS OR SEIZES UP 1. Straight petrol/gasoline used. 1. Allow to cool and check cylinder & piston for damage.
2. Cooling ducts in cylinder blocked. 2. Clean until clear.
3. Worn or damaged cylinder/piston assembly. 3. Dismantle and renew parts.
PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSES ACTION
IMPACT OVERHEATS OR SEIZES UP
1. Damaged gearbox bearings. 1. Strip and replace.
2. Damaged or broken gears. 2. As above.
3. Insufficient oil in gearbox. 3. Inspect inner parts then fill with oil.
4. Broken hammer or anvil lug. 4. Strip and replace broken parts.
PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSES ACTION
WRENCH HAS REDUCED PERFORMANCE 1. Worn or damaged hammer/anvil parts. 1. Check strike faces and inner hammer parts.
2. Air filter blocked. 2. Clean or replace.
3. Fuel filter blocked. 3. Clean or replace.
4. Clutch slipping. 4. Strip and check clutch and clutch ring for wear.
